Sushi #2: Miyoshi – Spicy shrimp, bbq eel, and spicy tuna – $14.50
Bbq eel and spicy shrimp |
Enjoying my crazy busy schedule at the moment! I think I’ve got 3 or 4 things booked for Saturday, which is such a change from just a year ago. If you haven’t heard of it, I’d recommend joining the EACC Cincinnati and the Give Back Cincinnati groups if you are looking to meet people or volunteer. Good times are had with both.
My friend's lunch sushi choice |
Here we go onto the 2nd sushi review of the year and this time it’s for Miyoshi. Miyoshi is located in Florence by the mall and is an easy lunch spot to get to if you are working out there. I’m not a fan of strip malls, but a lot of things are located in them in Florence. Luckily, Miyoshi has its own building with a lot of parking. It wasn’t busy when my 2 French friends and I went for lunch on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. The atmosphere is fairly dark, with some well placed sand and pebbles when you come in, giving it a more authentic feel. I liked the art on the walls, which is something I tend to look at when I am judging a restaurant. Also, there were more Japanese then a lot of ethnic places usually have, which I see as a good sign.
Higher quality spicy tuna |

There are a lot of seafood, soups, grilled, tempura and noodle dishes on the dinner menu, almost twice as much as on the lunch menu. I went with the sushi roll lunch, a pick any 2 rolls kind of deal for 9$, and went with the spicy shrimp roll and the bbq eel & cucumber roll, plus I am a growing boy, so I added a spicy tuna for 5.50$. Note: the spicy tuna will be my go to roll to average the quality at the sushi places I go. Since I am used to places like Dancing Wasabi, this was the first place that I noticed an appreciable difference in the quality of the fish in the spicy tuna. Normally, I expect to see a chopped up mixture, I guess I would say I’m used to canned tuna consistency at the cheaper places, whereas Miyoshi had whole pieces of fish that you could clearly tell the difference from the sauce. This won it some bonus points, and is now what I look for when going to other restaurants in this quest. One of my friends went with the lunch sushi rolls and was very pleased with he ordered as well, noting the quality too. My other friend chose the Gyu Don, thin sliced beef cooked in a sauce with burdock and scallion over rice. This dish smelled awesome and he was also happy with his choice. I would say that this is one of the best sushi places I’ve been to and my French friends that came along agree.

4 reviews down and shit tons left to go! I am 2 weeks behind, so I really have to go out and stop studying so much. L If you are in Florence, go to Miyoshi, it’s not busy, since it’s way out in Florence, but if you love sushi, you’ll be happy you tried it. Next week I am writing a review for Pho Lang Thang in Findlay Market.
