Roxy's (Hamburger Mary's)

Burger #29: Roxy's (Hamburger Mary's) – Mediterranean Burger – $10

Roxy's definitely has a unique atmosphere.
I wrote this 2 weeks ago and am finally getting around to posting.  I'll repost monday.

There isn’t much new to add this week except that school starts soon, and I’ve hit my first sushi place, Sung Korean downtown.  I can already tell I’m going to really enjoy this year’s challenge.

Alright onto the second burger review of the year and it was a unique experience unlike any of the other restaurants to date!  I can’t believe I am getting some time to write these reviews finally and all it took was a week and a half off of work and school.  Roxy’s is #29 in the order of which I had the burgers.   I didn’t plan this but Cincinnati magazine had this burger as #29 on their top 40 burger list too.  My rankings will come later maybe after #30’s review is done.  Roxy’s is a gay friendly club after hours but is a vegetarian friendly restaurant with a big Mediterranean influence.  It used to be called Hamburger Mary’s but something must have changed that.  Ingredients are locally grown, and they make their own sauces and dressings.  They also have live entertainment 7 days a week with open mic, karaoke, trivia, dj’s, an all male review, acoustic music, and brunch on Sundays.  That’s the largest variety of entertainment I’ve seen at a restaurant!

Roxy’s menu has a girl power feel and the food has Mediterranean samplings.  There is a fairly large selection of healthy options here too, which makes the menu a nice change of pace.  On the menu you’ll see homemade hummus & tabbouleh, pita, feta and kalamata olives used.  Chicken wings are renamed to “Miss hot wangs and thangs”, and quesadillas are “that’s so cheezie quesadillas”.  The vegetarian offerings are a bbq tofu sandwich, a seitan club, and falafel all for about 6$.  They also make a caramel-q wrap that has Roxy’s homemade caramel bbq sauce on chicken tender.  I’ve never heard of a caramel bbq sauce.

My double Mediterranean burger
As far the burger list there are several items, including a vege option.  The black bean burger and turkey burger are the healthy options.  Actual burgers that stand out include the sunny side burger (fried egg), Princess Diana (bacon, avocado, provolone), Roxy’s favorite (goat cheese, prov, pepper jack, avocado, herb mayo).  My burger is supposed to be a black and bleu boy burger, but it wasn’t on the list, and I was feeling into something spicy, not hot just flavorful.  I ordered the Mediterranean: a 1/2lb lamb and beef patty with Lebanese seasonings, garlic aioli, hummus, tabbouleh, cucumber, feta and kalamata olives.   I was really happy with my choice.  The seasonings on the burger really made it stand out.  It wasn’t too greasy and the bun was slightly above average. I am a fan of their hummus, tabbouleh and garlic aioli and it’s always nice to see them on a menu.  It wasn’t a top 10 burger, but it was better than a lot of them I’ve had.  I had the seasoned fries, which were flavorful and crisp but not my favorite.

Perfect picture! Deep in thought.
I will go back to Roxy’s I’m just not in a hurry to have more burgers since this resolution is done.   I think I’d like to try their wings with the homemade bbq sauces though and their hummus again.

Happy 2012!  Keep with your resolutions, it’s easier when you break them down into smaller, easier to achieve goals.  Make them into games and be competitive with someone.  Competition can overcome what seems like insurmountable odds.
